The Pilates Method is a full body and balanced program and is designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, posture, enhance mental awareness, and improve the way you move and perform your daily activities, jobs and sports and reduce your chance of injury
Pilates will decompress and destress your body.
You will become more body aware, learn to move with control and ease, gain strength and support from your deep stabilising muscles including your pelvic floor, deep abdominals and back muscles, shoulder stabilisers and glutes, learn to breathe well and not only how to engage the correct muscles but also to switch off the ones that are overactive
Forget impersonal gym-type classes...
We get to know everyone in our classes and attention is paid to each individual, with corrections, modifications and propping when necessary but also variations to challenge you. Sometimes the smallest adjustment can make a huge difference to how you are feeling or performing a movement.
We believe a good Pilates instructor not only teaches exercises but understands them and the way they feel on their own bodies with regular personal practice. They need to have an excellent practical understanding of anatomy and can read people’s bodies and movement and respond and adapt for each person and within each session in necessary. Our instructors are highly qualified and have many years of teaching experience between them.
As amazing as Pilates exercises are, they can still be performed in such a way that you won’t get the full benefit or can even injure yourself.
We understand each body is different and everyone learns in different ways and want you to get the most out of every Pilates session... so much more than just a 'workout'… by improving your body mechanics and, in turn your quality of movement so often discuss why you are doing things a certain way, where you should be feeling connections and how an exercise will benefit YOU when you leave the studio.
We work hard, but we love that Core Pilates has such a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and many laughs have been had and many friendships made over the years, with many clients who have been coming for over 10 years!
All of our classes are a FULL one hour as our timetable allows for changeover between classes
Matwork classes are done, as the name suggest on a mat on the floor and with our classes changing every week you will never get bored!
We work to improve your posture, alignment, core, strength, balance and movement patterns in different ways by incorporating props (our 'toys') such as foam rollers, mini balls, magic circles, hand and ankle weights, resistance bands and Fitballs
As you are supporting your own body against gravity, and this can prove to be quite challenging when done correctly.
We have a maximum of 16 participants in our matwork classes
Our Equipment based classes work primarily on the Reformer but we also incorporate use of the Wunda chairs, both working with spring based resistance to challenge and improve your core, your strength, alignment, stability and movement patterns.
This super popular class is excellent for both rehabilitation, sports conditioning and anyone else wanting to work on these ingenious pieces of equipment We have a maximum of 9 participants in our reformer and chair classes
When working under our qualified instructors both class formats can be adapted to the participant’s ability and we can often have multiple variations of an exercise within a single class to be sure everyone is getting the most out of their session.
As Pilates is so much more than an exercise program, it is very important you understand the basic concepts and principles to ensure you get the full benefit from your Pilates session. We offer beginner courses at various times during the year, but can also arrange one on one introductory sessions to prepare you to join a group class and then we will always offer various options and keep an attentive eye on you within your classes.
If you have any injuries or physical conditions it is important you let us know at the start so that we can ascertain whether a group class is suitable for you or if we need to focus on specific modifications.
